Mexico, Margaritas and Many Laughs

13 December, 2017

North Shore celebrate another great year with lots of fun and laughter at our Christmas party.

Another year past and lots of reasons to celebrate!

Nine of us kicked off the evening with a Margarita Masterclass. A little background on the origins of tequila to start (and a tipple here and there), then into making our first margarita. Once the glasses were rimmed with salt it was on to the pouring, spilling, pouring, more
spilling, some shaking and the first margarita was complete.
We were then given instructions or should I say reminded, of the basic ingredients for a margarita and left to our own devices.
I believe we were only meant to make two margaritas in total, however though it seems we may be good at counting laps, we aren't so good at counting our drinks!

The rest of the crew joined us an hour or two later, with the witty banter flowing, the drinks kept coming as did the food!

It has been another successful year for North Shore so we did have a lot to celebrate - including winning the Auckland SC Championships, NISC and Nationals! And we're pretty sure we took out top club overall for the year.

We also had our prize giving with our Swimmer of the Year going to our superstar Julie Gunthorp who broke 33 NZ records! Julie has had a stellar year in the pool, breaking records at every meet she has competed in this year which have included Australian Nationals, WMG, Auckland SC Champs, SISC, World Masters Championships and NZ Nationals.

Our Most Improved Swimmer was awarded to Jamie Sutcliffe. Jamie joined the Masters fold in 2016. At the WMG he competed in the 35-39yr age group improving his times in every event he entered (50 & 100Fly, 100 & 200Br and 200IM). He broke 2 individual NZ records (50Fly and 100Br) and 2 relay NZ records at the WMG. And from Auckland SC to NISC he improved his times in the 50Fly, 50 Br and 100Br.
Congratulations to both Julie and Jamie. Well deserved recipients of their awards.

A delicious chocolate cake for dessert topped off a wonderful evening and with only the stairs left to negotiate, we all wandered off into the night.
